Starting on 2nd March 2012, we will be opening 'The Lodge' in St Helens Square every Friday morning from 10 until 12. The Lodge is a great place to learn more about the GREAT HOSPITAL and to understand our 762 year history from the foundation by Bishop Walter de Suffield in 1249 up to the present day. Graphic displays describe various periods in history through the eyes of people who lived here along with an iteractive display with accounts of medieval medicine given by Carole Rawcliffe, Professor of Medieval History at the UEA and a look at the Great Hospitals Medieval Archive (which has now been awarded UNESCO UK Memory of the World Status) with Dr John Alban of the Norfolk Record Office. Perhaps most importantly our residents talk about life at the Great Hospital in the 21st Century. The excellent displays were produced by the Ugly Studio.
2 public tours are now available to book. See Tours on this website.
The Great Hospital is one of the Norwich 12 Buildings.
(a truely amazing place)
