Great Hospital Today

The 19th and 20th centuries saw many improvements in living conditions, and in the standard of accommodation, available at the Great Hospital. The original Master's House, Chaplains' House, and St Helen's House, have been converted into comfortable, well-appointed flats. Cottages in traditional almshouse style, but with modern interiors, have been built in the grounds, and a 20 bedded Residential Care Home provides a supportive environment for frailer residents.

Criteria for admission

    Applicants must be:
  • over 65 years of age
  • resident, or have worked, in Norwich for a minimum of 5 years
  • without the means to provide themselves with appropriate housing or care

In the 21st century the Great Hospital will continue to change and adapt as it strives to continue to provide excellent care for older people on this tranquil site, where the citizens of Norwich have been receiving support for over 750 years.
